Visit to Espirito Santo State
The Uiraçu Institute, through its president, Fernando Antonio Botelho, participated in the exchange project of the Atlantic forest Central Corridor, Bahia/ Espírito Santo, from 11 to 14 August 2010.
On the first day the participants visited the Muriqui project in Espírito Santo State located in the municipalities of Santa Maria of Jetibá and Santa Teresa, when they saw a group of Muriqui monkeys (Brachyteles hypoxanthus) in a forest area belonging to a group of rural proprietors and were informed of the experience and knowledge the researchers had accumulated on them over several years.

The members of the group also visited the Museum of Biology ‘Professor Mello Leitão’ in Santa Teresa where they attended a video on the Muriqui project and were given accounts of that and other projects and of the history and the current events at the Museum.

On the second day the group went to the municipality of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim and visited the Quilombola Community at Monte Alegre which is developing an ethno-eco-tourism project associated with the development of organic agriculture. Its products are marketed directly with the authority of the municipality for use in schools, hospitals and asylums.
While at the community the participants attended the presentation of several typical dances, tasted traditional local foods and went along several forest trails, as well as participating in a round table where there was a profitable exchange of informations and experiences.
