A Thought for Reflection

“You should teach your children that the soil under their feet is the ashes of our grandfathers. So that they respect the Earth, tell your children that it was enriched with the life of our people. Teach your children what we teach ours, that the Earth is our Mother.  Everything that happens to the earth will happen to the children of the Earth. If men spit on the soil, they are spitting on themseves. This we know: the Earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the Earth. This we know: all things are interconnected like the blood that unites a family. There is a connection in everything.”

(Part of the Letter written by Chief Seattle to the President of the United States in 1854)
