A new species of (Bromeliaceae) was discovered in Serra Bonita Reserve. Found only above an altitude of 800 m, its distribution is restricted to a few hectares. The species, Quesnelia koltesii (Amorim & Leme) was described in homage to Mr. Steve F. Koltes, for his generosity and dedication in supporting the preservation of Serra Bonita. The species was discovered through surveys of vegetation in areas of higher altitude Atlantic Forest, above 700 meters, in the South of Bahia, as part of a project coordinated by Dr. André M. Amorim of the Department of Biological Sciences of the Santa Cruz State University with which Instituto Uiraçu has a Technical Cooperation Agreement. Support for this Project was given by The National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, State of Bahia Foundation for Research, Beneficia Foundation, National Science Foundation and the National Geographic Society (NGS). The description of the species was published in the journal  Brittonia 61(1): 14-21 (2009) (WWW.springer.com/12228).
