Atlantic Forest Week in Camacan is a great success
Between 02 and 05 June, Instituto Uiraçu, together with Camacan Town Council, carried out a series of activities in celebration of Atlantic Forest Day (27 May) and International Environment Day (5 June) including: Ecology Day in local schools where each school dedicated the day working on one of the themes - Water, Biodiversity and Waste; Parade for the Atlantic Forest by school pupils and teachers in the streets of Camacan; Exhibition in the municipal library; First Camacan Environment Seminar which consisted in a number of talks and presentations regarding the themes worked on during Ecology Day.
Well over 3.000 pupils participated in these activities in addition to teachers, community leaders and members of local groups and associations. The activities were organised by Instituto Uiraçu, Camacan Town Hall Agricultural and Education Secretaries with the help of Lions Club de Camacan, Grupo de Desbravadores and Embasa (Bahia Water Company), The Local Environment and Environmental Education Councils. Activities were supported by Banco do Brasil, Camacan Chamber of Comerce, Rádio Sul FM and Embasa and included the participation of TV Santa Cruz, Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz, Bahia State Environment Secretary and the following local public and private schools: Luciano Santana, Cleriston Andrade, Professora Luiza Vargens, Ainda Nô, Boaventura Ribeiro, João XXIII, Presidente Medice, Paulo Souto, Semente Viva, Dr.Flaviano de Jesus Filho, Polivalente, CEAV, Cantinho Mundo Encantado, Interação and Meu Cantinho.
